Essay on Our Solar System

The Sun is a star. The family of the Sun is called the Solar System. The nine planets, their moons, or satellites, large chunks of rock and ice, dust and gas make up the family of the Sun.

The Sun is a huge globe of hot glowing gases. It is so huge that an invisible force is built around it. It forces all other heavenly bodies to move around it in their fixed paths called orbits.

The nine planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Jupiter is the largest planet, while Pluto is the smallest planet. Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars are made up of rock and metal. Where as Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are huge globes of gases. Pluto lies too far away. So, scientists believe that it is icy cold and barren.

Most planets have moons. Only Mercury and Venus don’t have any moons. Saturn has the maximum number of moons. It has about 18 moons. The Earth has only one moon. It goes round the Earth. The Earth is the only planet in the Solar System that has plants and animals on it.
